What’s your favorite book that nobody else has heard of? You know, not Little Women or Huckleberry Finn, not the latest best-seller . . . whether they’ve read them or not, everybody “knows” those books. I’m talking about the best book that, when you tell people that you love it, they go, “Huh? Never heard of it?”

And, folks–Becca was nice enough to nominate Booking Through Thursday for a Blogger’s Choice Award–while you’re here, why don’t you head over and vote for us, too. Because, a vote for BTT is a vote for all of us who play each week!

I guess this has to depend on who the other reader is. If I know them, I will more or less know their reading preferences and/or which author they have heard of or read. However I can't tell if you are talking about other readers whom I don't know personally because what I have heard about doesn't mean they have too. Or to put it from another angle, if I recommend my favourite book to a friend whom is not interested in a particular genre, she might not have heard of the book because it is outside her reading genre.

Despite my views as above, I'd like to recommend this author - Matthew Reilly, because he writes great thrillers in my opinion. Most of his books are action packed and will send your adrenaline pumping (Please click here for a list of his books). I am not sure if everyone has heard of his books though as most of my booklover friends told me they have not heard of his name until I have mentioned it.

Finally, I'd like to thank Deb for putting up this blog as an exchange for booklovers around the world. I'd also like to congratulate BTT being nominated for the award; it is truly well deserved.

I haven't ever read Matthew Reilly, but I have heard of him. He's an Aussie author, so we do hear at least when he has a new book out! One day I will try him!

  2. Madelein Says:

I haven't heard of him either- will definetly go try it out- Thanks!!

  3. Julia Says:

Friends recommend me Matthew Reilly many times, but I haven't yet read his books. So I have heard of him though :)

Happy BTTs have a good weekend!

  4. No I've not heard of Matthew Reilly!

  5. Melody Says:

Marg, I hope you will pick up his books because they are really thrilling. ;)

Madelein, I understand not many readers have heard of his name. :) I too hope you will try his books one day.

Julia, you are one of my friends who have heard of his name! ;) Still, I hope you will try his books soon, hehe.

Juliet, I guess I should've added to the post that he's an Aussie author. ;)

I have heard of him but not read any of his books.

One of my friends who has immigrated to Australia, loves his books. I think I will ask my friend to send me a few!

    LOL!

  7. Melody Says:

    Great idea, Gautami! LOL.

  8. Kat Says:

Matthew Reilly! You know, I found out about him from a stranger on the train! He was reading "Seven Deadly Wonders" and I got so curious about it. I still haven't read any of his works. Sounds like I should. :D

I agree. It depends on who the other reader is. :D

  9. Sam Says:

I have heard of Matthew Reilly!! I even have a couple of his books and think that they are quite good - you have to suspend reality a bit, but I like them!

  10. Jodie Robson Says:

I haven't heard of Matthew Reilly but I guess that, as you suggest in your post, I wouldn't because he's outside my preferred genres - I don't really do thrillers. I'll look out for him though, and maybe give him a try.

  11. Melody Says:

Kat, I hate to admit this but I'm always curious about what other passengers are reading when I'm travelling in a public transport. LOL. Hope you will try reading his books one day, they are great IMO. ;)

Sam, I'm so glad that you have heard of Matthew Reilly! *Phew* LOL. And the best thing is you have his books too! :D

Geraniumcat, that's what I think. I hope you will like his books if you have the chance to read them. :)

I've read "Seven Deadly Wonders" and I wouldn't mind reading another book from him.

  13. Amy Says:

I hadn't heard of Reilly but I LOVE thrillers. Are they very gory? Some of the really gory stuff puts me off but I can handle it as long as it is mild. I will check into his books.

  14. larawannabe Says:

I haven't heard of Reilly either but his book sounds interesting *jot down name into to-read list*

    Happy BTT! :)

  15. Darla Says:

Well, I notice from my statistics that I really haven't been reading many action thrillers lately. I'll have to give him a try!

I'm always surprised when somebody's read Freedom and Necessity by Emma Bull and Steven Brust--I love it, but it seems not many people have heard of it. Possibly because they're both fantasy authors and the book isn't fantasy--it's historical fiction.

  16. Judy Says:

I enjoy thrillers, and this is a new author to me. He's going on my ever-growing list of authors to check out, though. Thanks for the heads-up!

  17. Ladytink_534 Says:

I've never read Reilly before but I'm almost positive I've heard of him!

  18. Jane Says:

I haven't read any of his yet but I have seen them at the bookstore. Maybe it is time to take the plunge. Who doesn't love a good thriller!

  19. Melody Says:

Mervi, I hope you enjoyed reading that book! Try reading Ice Station or Contest, those are my favourites! :)

Amy, his books are not gory at all! Exciting - yes. Thrilling - yes. Intriguing - yes, but definitely not gory but prepared for more action packed scenes. ;)

Larawannabe, thanks for visiting! I hope you will enjoy reading his books. I can't wait to hear your thoughts after you have read them. :D

Darla, please give his books a try! I have not heard of Emma Bull and Steven Brust, but am glad you enjoyed their books. I rarely read historicals nowadays... especially the romance genre. ;)

Judy, you are welcome! Hope you will enjoy his books too!

Jen, I'm glad the name rings a bell for you. Perhaps you should try reading his books next. ;P

Jaimie, I'm a great fan of thrillers, especially action packed ones! LOL.

Guess I will have to pick up some Reilly!!

By the way, you've been tagged!!

  22. Melody Says:

Pussreboots, I hope you will enjoy his books if you have the chance to read it.

Stephanie, thanks for tagging me. :)

I love switching things up and going for an entertaining action-packed read every now and again. I'll have to add Matthew Reilly to my list of authors to check out!

  24. Melody Says:

TFP, I too hope you will enjoy Matthew Reilly's books. :)

  25. Anonymous Says:

The only Matthew Reilly book that I've read is Contest, which I enjoyed very much. I'm planning to read another one of his books, Ice Station later this week.

I agree with Sam about having to suspend reality when you read one of his books. That's exactly what I was talking about when I wrote about his book on my blog (see here).

  26. Melody Says:

Hi Nithin! Thanks for your comments. I love Contest, but Ice Station is one of my favourites. ;)

I agree with you ladies about having to suspend reality when reading Matthew Reilly's books, but then he has a way of letting his readers to escape from reality and indulge in his action-packed world. :)
