Musing Mondays

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about multitasking.

Do you – or are you even able – to do other things while you read? Do you knit, hold a conversation, keep an eye on the TV? Anything?

Unlike work, reading is not about being productive but is all about sheer pleasure and entertainment, thus I don't multi-task while I read. However, I do read a little when watching TV but that is only when the commercials come on.

While I could read while holding a conversation, I try not to do so because I find it inappropriate, not to mention rude.

What about you?

Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia from The Printed Page where readers are to share the books that came into their house last week.

These are what I received last week:

1) The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting (bought from The Book Depository)

2) Read, Remember, Recommend by Rachelle Rogers Knight (review copy)

What books came into your house last week?

I can't do anything else when I'm reading. Reading takes me into the zone and, if it's an especially good read, it's hard to distract me from it. :)

  2. Darlyn Says:

absolutely not!i hardly listen to anything while i read.but maybe tuning some jim brackman.or drinking coffee with some cookies.other than that, i would never do anything while i'm reading..

  3. Matt Says:

I prefer to read in a quiet environment free of any distraction. I cannot read when my favorite TV show is on. But I would blot out the TV if someone else is watching and I have no interest in the program.

  4. Violet Says:

Absolutely, I agree Melody. I can't multitask either. I can put on music in the background but after some time I kind of tune it out :)

  5. Alice Says:

I read while I eat, but only when I'm eating alone. Is that considered multitasking? :)

  6. Julia Says:

I do watch TV while am reading, When commericals come on that is. I also eat while I read alone(*waving at Alice*). Or read while I'm waiting for the foods to boiled or heat up. I have timer with me to let me know when each step of the progress are done. Give me a good chance to catch up on reading ;)

  7. Joanna Says:

Whilst I'm able to eat and read, or put on some music, I can't hold a conversation whilst reading ... I tend to just nod at everything that person says without registering anything :P

That Read, Remember, Recommend sure is popular right now. Enjoy your books. My MM is here.

  9. Melody Says:

Ceri - I feel the same way too! :)

Darlyn - Oh, I've forgotten about music. Usually, I don't mind them but I'd prefer not to listen to them while I read.

Matt - I absolutely cannot read when my favourite TV show is on, LOL. Like you, I can blot out the TV if the program doesn't interest me.

Violet - I guess it has to depend on which interest me more when I read and listen at the same time. ;)

Alice - Sometimes I do that too, hehe.

    Julia - Yeah, you're such a multi-tasker, hehe. :P

Joanna - That's because the books are more interesting, hehe.

Pussreboots - I've been seeing that book around the blogosphere too. I look forward to reading it.

  10. They both look like good books, enjoy!

  11. Serena Says:

I have the reading journal as well. Happy reading.

  12. Kaye Says:

Read, Remember, Recommend looks interesting. I hope you enjoy it. I am not a multi tasker when I read. Too distracting.

  13. Read, Remember, and Recommend is on my wish list. I think it looks like a great reading tool. I can't do anything else while I read either. If it's too noisy I can't concentrate either. Have a great week!

  14. caite Says:

no, I can not do anything else while reading. as to reading during commercials, I try to watch very little Tv live...I dvr it and zip through the commercials

  15. Jaimie Says:

    Hi Melody!
I can't multi task either. The only thing I can do is sometimes jump up to change the laundry!

  16. Anna Says:

I also received the reading journal. Looking forward to your thoughts.

I got Read, Remember, Recommend too and I think it's fantastic. Enjoy!

  19. Debbie Says:

You're right! It would be rude to read while someone trys to talk to you.

  20. Nise' Says:

  22. Darlene Says:

I do knit on occasion when I'm reading and I do watch tv. Mostly on commercials though like you.

  23. Jeane Says:

Sometimes I read alongside my husb while he's watching sports. But not a book that takes great concentration. About the only thing I can do easily while reading is eat! Actual tasks? no.

  24. Iliana Says:

I pretty much prefer quiet around me when I'm reading.

Oh and I got the Read book too. I've only skimmed it and it does look great content wise but I am not liking the binding (must be the bookbinder in me - haha).

  25. Veens Says:

I can't multitask. I have to read and thats the only thing i will do. :)

Nice mailbox, i hope u enjoy these books.
