Quick! It’s an emergency! You just got an urgent call about a family emergency and had to rush to the airport with barely time to grab your wallet and your passport. But now, you’re stuck at the airport with nothing to read. What do you do??
And, no, you did NOT have time to grab your bookbag, or the book next to your bed. You were . . . grocery shopping when you got the call and have nothing with you but your wallet and your passport (which you fortuitously brought with you in case they asked for ID in the ethnic food aisle). This is hypothetical, remember….
I am sure there will be at least one bookstore in most airports, so I will just find some books there. If unfortunately there isn't one and if the waiting time isn't long, I guess I will just try to walk around or people watch, hoping that time will pass quickly. Then again, I think reading will be the last thing on my mind since I will be worried for my family. I don't think I will be able to concentrate on my reading until I am assured that they are fine.
You make a good point about being too worried to read, but assuming I want to distract myself, it's not a problem. If I have my purse, I have something to read--my ebook reader stays in my purse, so I always have something to read.
I agree. Reading would not be a priority in such a situation.
Melody, thanks for your concern. I am ok. I have just moved into a new house. I was without internet for 12 days. Hence no posts. Although I did schedule posts beforehand on my other blog.
Hugs!
So true. All of the airports I frequent have bookstores of some sort and if I can't find a book, I could probably find a magazine to read. And like you, a lot would depend on how upset or worried I am.
Same here Melody. I couldn't read at a time like that. I would be on the phone the entire time.
My first instinct was to say "I'd buy a book at the airport", but you make a very good point. If I'm worried about something or someone then I can't read at all.
People watching is always a good fall-back. :-)
I seem to think that reading would take my mind off my worry...but maybe that's me not being very realistic. I've never had this happen to me so I dunno.
That's a good point, I would probably be worried about my family too. I would probably buy a book though just in case.
In my case I'd probably be driving to reach my family, rather than flying. But if I were stuck at an airport, I'd buy a book there. Happy BTT.
Darla - I have not tried reading an ebook before, although I'd love to if given the chance. ;)
Gautami - I'm glad to hear everything goes well with you. Moving house can be a headache sometimes and I hope things have settled down quickly for you. :)
Wendy - I don't mind reading a magazine too, as long as there's something to keep my mind occupied (besides worrying that is).
Jaimie - Yes, me too.
Nymeth - I think most of us will be too worried at this time to read anything.
Trish - I enjoy people watching. Sometimes I feel I'm able to tell what kind of people they are by the way they talk or behave. ;)
Rhinoa - I agree it's always good to carry something to read just to take my mind off something, even if it's only for a while.
Pussreboots - Ah yes! Driving is definitely another good option.
Same answer for me, Melody. It'd be insane for me to be reading during those times. I wouldn't be able to concentrate...
Bookstores in the airport are a lifesaver. But there is always something to do in the airport if necessary. Although about the third down up and down the escalator, they sometimes ask you to stop :-)
Alice - Exactly my thoughts.
Kim - Yes, I'm sooo glad that most airports have bookstores, otherwise I don't know what to do without them!
I also wouldn't be able to concentrate enough to read.
Exactly my thoughts, Mervi.
