Booking Through Thursday

Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school–does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?

You know, I wish we have four seasons here! Living in a tropical country meaning we have summer all year round (although we expect the monsoon season towards the end of the year), and it gets kind of boring having the same season all the time. Nevertheless, the weather (since the changing season does not apply to me here) has no effect on my reading habits. Even though if I live in a country with changing season, I guess I will still answer the same - I will read as much as I can; the choice of books will depend on my moods and that is about it.

I live in South Florida, but because of school, it still has the feel of seasons changing.

We have very distinct seasons her in India. Though we don’t classify them as Autumn and Fall. We have a rainy, a winter and a summer season. But yes, like you it does not affect my reading habits. May be during the rainy season, as its always raining, I tend to stay more at home, thus reading more.

Sally - I really wish we've four seasons here. It'd be lovely to experience the change of season throughout the year, and I think autumn will be my favourite season. :)

Violetcrush - I agree. I'd want to stay indoors during the rainy season. It'd be nice to snuggle under the covers, have a steaming cup of tea while you read. What bliss! ;)

Back home in San Antonio, we have seasons: hot, insanely hot, hot, and spring. I love it.

Here in Germany there are seasons, too: cold and rainy, followed by cold and rainy, a 2-week break of warm sunshine in July, then cold and rainy, and finally, cold and rainy. Although, I must say, sometimes it's rainy and cold rather than cold & rainy. And there are days when it only looks as though it's going to rain. LOL

But to answer the question, no--I don't change my reading habits with the seasons.

You're the third "tropical" post I've read this morning. I'll be envious in a few months, when winter starts!

Like you, my reading habits change sometimes, but I'm not sure why...

  6. Debi Says:

I'm one of the lucky ones (in my eyes) who actually gets 4 very distinct seasons. But while I love my creepy reads this time of year, I don't think that otherwise the seasons much dictate what I read.
By the way, feel free to remind me how much I love the four seasons when I start complaining that winter just won't end. ;)

Having lived in Texas & now Florida where it is pretty much warm all the time, I wish I had all 4 seasons myself, but like you it does not effect what or how I read :)

  8. Yvonne Says:

So many responses I've read so far are from people in tropical climates. I live in New York, so I get all 4 seasons. I, also, seem to be the only one - so far - whose reading is effected by the seasons :)

  9. Mia Celeste Says:

I live in Wisconsin where we have four seasons, but I read through all of them. I always have a book going regardless of the weather. Happy TT!

  10. Alice Says:

Hi Melody, I live in the same region as yours (ahem! LOL) and almost had the same answer. :D

  11. Anonymous Says:

    Great answer. Happy Thursday!

  12. Susan Says:

    I like your answer!

We don't have many seasons where I live, but even if we did, I don't think it would make any difference in what I want to read.

I live in Michigan where we do have four seasons and I guess that I am one of the few who does shift a bit during the seasons. I still read what I want but what I want tends to change.

  14. Anonymous Says:

Great answer. I read what I usually read--historical fiction, classics, and sometimes comfort reads, regardless of season. San Francisco doesn't have distinct seasons so beachy reads aren't even relevant in a foggy, cold July!

We have all four seasons where I live and I enjoy that. Sometimes it does depend on my moods but I enjoy a book about that ever season or holiday were having.

  16. S. Krishna Says:

I don't think the seasons have much of an effect on my reading habits either!

  17. Even with slight season changes, my reading habits are not seasonal either, Melody. Like you, I read depending on my mood--and interests me in that moment.

  18. Melody Says:

Darla - I don't mind having cold weather for a change, but having too much rain sucks! LOL. I haven't been to Germany but I heard from the hubs that it's a nice country to visit; he went there for a job training several years back. I especially love viewing the architecture, they're beautiful!

Janet - If only we're able to swap our weathers for some time being... LOL.

Debi - I'm so envious!! Don't worry, I'll remind you when the time comes! ;P

Social frog - Texas sounds wonderful! I'd love to meet a real cowboy/cowgirl one day! They're too cool. ;)

Yvonne - I think the only thing that'll affect my reading is towards the Christmas season. Books with a Christmas theme always makes me feel warm and cozy. :)

Brenda - Me too, regardless of any weather!

Alice - Yeah, we share the same answers because our countries are so close to each other! ;P

    Charli - Thanks! :)

Amy - I know that feeling! It's all depending on our moods. :)

Matt - I've began to read more historical fiction and classics lately, and they are great!

Vivian - I understand...sometimes we need to read certain books to get our moods going, isn't it? ;)

Susan, Krishna, Wendy - Glad we share the same thoughts. :D

  19. Kim L Says:

I live in an area with two seasons (or so it seems) Winter. Almost winter.

Okay, that's an old joke about Minnesota, and anyone who lives through the negative zero weather wishes they lived somewhere else. I guess I have never given much thought though, to not having any seasons. I actually do like having a variety of seasons, I just wish summer wasn't so short!

  20. Melody Says:

Kim - I don't mind having winter; but autumn would be wonderful! As for summer, I guess I'm too used to it, LOL.

  21. Julia Says:

I wish you could experience the four season. I know that with each season, there something to like about it. Autumn is one of my favorite season. And if you could have that, you will love it :)

You already know that I go with where ever my moods take me to read. So I just follow it *grin*...

Thanks for being my cheerleader when I don't post my TTs too often. Even though it fun to keep you waiting LOL - KIDDING! You are great friend! Also thanks for visiting my blog and comments. I wish you good day!

  22. Seasons do not affet my reading. But
    Moods affect me more!

  23. Kat Says:

Haha, the only change in season that we have is from dry to rainy and back again, too! That really doesn't affect my reading either. :)

  24. Melody Says:

    Julia - You're a great friend! :) I hope you've a great weekend.

    Gautami - Me too. ;)

Kat - We've similiar weathers, hehe.
