Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading trends…
Do you find yourself forming trends in your reading? Is this a conscience act, influenced by either your own interests or current publishing fads?
If anyone asked me this question about five years ago, I would have answered yes. You see, I am a huge fan of the romance suspense, horror and thriller genres back then and I would read nothing else except those. However, blogging has made me "open up" to other genres and I have to thank fellow bookbloggers for this because without your great recommendations, I would have missed out a lot of good books out there!
Now that I have a wide variety of books to choose from, I do not really have any reading trends and the books I chose to read are mostly based on my reading mood at that moment. Publishing fads do not really have any effect on me, although they do allow me to add the books to my TBR pile for my future reading.
What about you? Do you have a reading trend?
Great answer, Melody! I think I still go through phases now and then where I'm really craving mysteries or fantasy or something.
I favor sci-fi and fantasy. Here is mine
For many years I only read True Crime, got tired of it. Now I read all kinds of stuff and I have all different reasons for choosing them.
same here. I had very limited reading before but now I read so much more.
hmm.. NO! I dnt think so...I dnt have any trends... I always change my reads.. like if i m reading HIstorical fiction now.. it will be mystery next or something like that!
I'm leaning towards fantasy. Apart from that I read anything that's thriller, mystery, romance, etc etc. :)
Wendy - I can totally relate about the phase stuff! :P
Bluestocking - I rarely read sci-fi but I love fantasy!
Social Frog, Violet - I'm glad we've a wide variety to choose from, thanks to all our bookblogging friends! :D
Veens - Me too! Our reading moods are so unpredictable. :P
Alice - We must have cross-post! :P
Speaking of romance, I haven't been reading one lately though I did buy one or two books of that genre lately. ;)
pre-blogging, I was all about the mysteries.
I go through trends in my reading in the sense that sometimes reading a book will make me want to read more of that kind. For example, having just finished The Woman in White I now want to read all the sensational novels I've been missing out on :P
Ditto on how book blogs have enriched my reading.
I don't think I have a reading trend either. Mainly, I want variety! If I have one mystery going on, then I also want some literary fiction and maybe a YA or some other genre book. It doesn't always work out that way but sometimes it does :)
I'm the same as you. I was hooked on either horror or classics and every now and then dipped my toe into a spot of modern fiction before I started blogging. When I discovered a whole world of book bloggers a whole new world opened up. This time last year I wouldn't have dreamed of cracking open a YA book or even a fantasy novel. Now my wishlist is filled with them! :)
Caite - Me too!
Nymeth - Ah yes! I can relate to that! ;P
Nise' - I just love this bookblogging community!
Iliana - I'm currently reading three books and they're all of different variety! I love it! :D
Ceri - My wishlist is getting longer and longer because of all the great recommendations from you all! The problem is finding a space for them, LOL.
