Do you use any of the online book-cataloguing sites, like Library Thing or Shelfari? Why or why not? (Or . . . do you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking to?? (grin))

If not an online catalog, do you use any other method to catalog your book collection? Excel spreadsheets, index cards, a notebook, anything?

Yes, I'm a user of Library Thing and Shelfari. I like them because I think they helps me in keeping track of my expanding book collection. Another great thing about Shelfari is, I get notifications via email whenever someone added a book review which it happens to be on my bookshelf, and on top of that you are also notified whenever your friends have added any books on their shelves. It's fun to see what everyone is reading. Other than that, I don't have a habit of cataloguing my books but I do make a list of the books I read on my blog as a reference.

Melody - I love the idea that Shelfari notification me through via emails that someone updated "something" at their Shelfari too. It help to see what new they have added or what so ever :)

    Happy BTTs ! Here Mine!

That notification is a cool idea. I don't do reviews, just catalog my books on LibraryThing. There's a new site on the horizon - Bookbump - that looks promising as well.

I like the sound a notification about reviews - it's fun to know what other people think of books we own!

  4. I keep adding my new books at Library Thing. I started a few months back.

Shelfari, frankly I don't have the time as of now to interact there.

The notification about reviews is a good idea. I haven't come across Shelfari, but I love LibraryThing.

  7. Chris Says:

I'm a LT user. I only had lists (which I'd lose) before.

  8. It really does sound like it would be so much fun. I wish I had the memory to remember to add my books, but my memory, alas, is like swiss cheese without the cheese (all holes!).

  9. Amy Says:

I love LT too. It's helped me a lot to be organized but I still forget to add books sometimes.

    Hi Melody!

Ditto on LibraryThing. I'm also exploring Goodreads and they also send email notifications whenever someone posts a review. Happy BTT!

When I found Library Thing last year, I went ahead and purchased the life-time subscription. Figured I would use it!! I'm gradually adding my books. But with the amount I have, it could take a while!!

    Happy Thursday!!

  12. Jane Says:

I do Library Thing but Shelfari looks interesting. I shouldn't even be thinking about it because I am so far behind in cataloguing!

I'm stopping by to let you know that I've set up a separate blog for the What's in a Name? challenge. I hope you'll be able to stop by once in while to see what contests are going on and to leave links to any reviews you write. Thanks again for joining!

I just got tired of messing with mine so I stopped updating it.

I use Goodreads to see what others are reading. Otherwise I use my own catalog to track books. Happy BTT.

I think the same thing too, Julia. :)

Hi Fern! I haven't heard of Bookbump, so I will have to check it out. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Geraniumcat! Yeah, don't you think that's cool? :)

Hi Gautami! I add new books to LT and Shelfari. I think it's about time I update my older books too, hehe.

Hi 3M! Thanks, I will add your username to my list.

Hi Bookplease! I think a lot of us are using LT. It's one of the best.

Hi Chris! I'd hate to lose my list too, and I think sites like LT or Shelfari really helps us in updating our books online.

Hi Heather! I have a short memory, so nowadays I make a habit of updating the list whenever I get the new books so I won't forget that way in future! LOL.

Hi Amy! I think most of us do have those moments, hehe...

Hi Alice! I have heard so many good things about Goodreads, I think it's time for me to check it out. ;)

Hi Stephanie! I haven't subscribed to LT, yet. But I suppose it's useful it we have a lot of books to catalog and so forth.

Hi Jaimie! I didn't know about Shelfari until sometime later a friend introduced it to me after I have registered with LT some time earlier.

Hi Debi & Annie! Noted with thanks. I'm sure it'd be loads of fun, can't wait! :)

Hi Jen! I find blogging can be another great site for updating our read books that is, hehe.

Hi Pussreboots! Ah...another Goodreads user. I need to check out this site soon. :)

  17. I use Library Thing also, and really like it. I do, however, really like that idea about being notified of reviews of books you have in your catalog, or when your friends add books, that's pretty cool. Does LT have something similar? You need to write in and suggest that :) I would love to have that as a feature in LT!

Have a great day and Happy Reading!!!

  18. Hi, Melody! I am a big fan of LT. I'm still deciding about Shelfari--whether I like it or not. It's not quite as user friendly as I would like.

  19. Melody Says:

Hi Stacy! I haven't explore LT much except updating my list so I'm not sure if it has a notification list, but I have heard a lot of great things about LT from other bloggers and that they even have an early reviewer program, so overall I think it's a good site! :)

Hi Wendy! No matter which site it is, as long as we find it useful and user friendly, it is a good site! :) BTW, I like the way LT lists my books on my blog. ;)

I really like using LibraryThing as well. It's so easy to use and a fun way to chat to other readers. It's also really fun to see what others have in their libraries to get recommendations and to read their reviews. I am on there as Rhinoa.

  21. Melody Says:

    I'm with you, Rhinoa. :)
