My husband and I had wanted to watch this movie way before it is released and reviewed. He has been a fan of these superheroes during his childhood days so I have in fact anticipated his enthusiasm of watching this movie when we first knew of the release date.

Anyway, we watched this on Monday evening. As we did not buy the tickets earlier, we were left only the few first rows to choose from. We ended up with a corner seat in the fifth row. It was not too bad, comparing those people who bought the first row! I just could not imagine them having to crane their necks for the whole of 153 minutes running time.

Unlike other superheroes blockbusters where we see the heroes being the main focus of the movies, The Dark Knight not only focus on its protagonist - Batman, but on the Joker too. In fact, I would think this movie is tailored for him.

I do not want to write the summary on this post as I fear anything I write would be a spoiler. I would just say that this is not only a good versus evil story, but a story that will leave anyone thinking about one's human nature, and also on one's perspective.

Heath Ledger, who played the character of the Joker, was simply terrific! His acting was superb without a doubt. He portrayed the role so well that I find it spooky. He had a loony side, but yet he showed wits and intelligence when he played with the cops and Batman like a cat preying on the mouse.

Aaron Eckhart, who played Havey Dent aka Two-Face is another interesting character because he was once considered a righteous person to all citizens of Gotham, but then I see his reason for turning anyone against him and decided he had no choice after all given the circumstances. And then of course, Christian Bale as Batman and Morgan Freeman's performance did not disappoint the viewers either. I could not remember seeing any other superheroes movies as entertaining and thought-provoking in a way as this one. It was really well worth the money and the time. And it goes without saying that my husband will buy the DVD once it is released. I definitely would not mind watching it the second time, or the next.

I'm looking forward to see this movie this weekend. Been waiting to see it ever since I saw the preview not long months ago. I love all the Batman movies I've seen.

I have heard great thing about Heath role as Joker in Dark Knight. I'm glad to hear that he been praised very well for his role in this movie. I've seen many of his movies that I like that he was good in. Sadly, he was a good guy and he is sadly missed. I think his last movie, Dark Knight should be dedicated to him too :)

Sorry I'm blabbing. I'm gonna miss him...

I'm hoping you'll watch this movie soon, Julia! It's really good. And I've read a lot of good reviews about this too. ;)

It's a pity that Heath Ledger was no longer around because I think he was a very talented actor. He had really brought the role of the Joker to life in this movie. Indeed he'd be terribly missed.

Oh yes, Melody. The whole world is talking about this movie and how good it is. And now you've been 'infected' too. LOL.

I was going to watch it this weekend but then there's a home fellowship outing so it'll have to wait.

I'm going to miss Heath Ledger too. He's good in Brokeback Mountain...

I really want to see this but we have the worst luck when we go to the movies - always loud or annoying people near us - and what with this being such a big opening we thought we'd wait for a while before going to see it. It's hard to wait though when everyone is saying how good it is :)

We saw it this weekend (I'm posting a review on my blog on Thursday). My husband was as eager to see it as yours was, and I liked it much more than I expected to. DON'T bring the kids, but it's well worth seeing. Great spoiler-free review, Melody!

I can't wait to see this!!!!

Alice - I thought Brokeback Mountain is a good movie; both Heath Ledger's and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance really shines in that movie. Can't wait to hear your thoughts once you've watched The Dark Knight though.

Iliana - I hate it when people talk loudly or did not switch their cellphones into silent mode. It is quite annoying with all these interruptions in the cinemas when the movie is showing. I agree it's better to wait a while before seeing it but my husband and I just couldn't wait, LOL. I hope you'll watch it soon!

Florinda - That's great! I can't wait to read your review on it. I agree it's better not to bring young kids to watch this... too dark IMO.

    Jen - I'm hoping you'll watch this soon!! :)

I'm glad you and the hubby enjoyed it. I think Two Face bothered me the most. I forgot about the Harvey Dent and Two Face connection, so I was surprised! I really like the movie though.

  9. Melody Says:

Kristy, the Two-Face character bothered me too. I actually felt sorry for him after what had happened to him...*sigh*

I really enjoyed this movie too. In addition to the great performances, special effects and action sequences, it had some interesting dark psychological themes - which you don't often find given this level of attention in superhero movies.

  11. Melody Says:

That's right, Paula. I think I liked the psychological theme amongst all.

I went to see it yesterday and I completely agree with you. It was very gripping and also thought-provoking. I liked how absolutely nothing about it was simplistic.

Heath Ledger was excellent, and you know what made me sad? In the very first scene, the bank robbery, before he leaves the bank he takes off his mask and smiles at the security camera really quickly. And that smile was the Heath Ledger smile that I know well from his other movies...it was so sad to see it there and to think he's no longer around.

I couldn't agree with you more. Excellent movie, excellent actors, and I would totally watch it again. Hopefully not from the 4th row of the movie theater, though. My neck was protesting after that one!

  14. Melody Says:

Nymeth - I think this will be one of my favourite superheroes movies. I'm sure most of us will remember Heath Ledger's signature smile and his outstanding performance.

Kim - LOL. I'll definitely watch it again, but in the comfort at home on a DVD. ;)

  15. This is probably my favorite superhero movie. It was so good! I want to see it again too. Great review, Melody!

  16. Melody Says:

Wendy, I agree with you about the movie! :) I'm hoping to watching it again soon.
