All other things (like price and storage space) being equal, given a choice in a perfect world, would you rather have paperbacks in your library? Or hardcovers? And why?

As a booklover, I love books in all formats. So I'd choose to have both formats in my library, if that is possible! Although paperbacks are much easier to read and carry as compared to hardcovers, but I find the latter that will last longer and is better as a collector's item (or even limited edition). Thus, given my above reasons, I find it impossible to choose just one so I'd go with both! :P

Great answer -- really, hardbacks and paperbacks are like apples and oranges. If you love 'em both, it's hard to pick a favorite!

    Happy BTT! :)

A person shouldn't have to choose anyway! ;-)

  3. Julia Says:

Agree...as booklover I would have all format in my library too. :)

Have a good Thursday and weekend ahead!

  4. Kat Says:

Yeah, if the budget and space would allow it, I'd go for both :D

  5. Melody Says:

Thomma - you said it! It's so hard to choose between them! ;)

Joanna - It'd be great if we don't have to choose anything in this world. :)

Julia - Exactly! Then our libraries will be complete, isn't it? ;P

Kat - Glad most of us think alike! :D

I prefer paperbacks, because I read more paperbacks than hardcovers. But it will be a much more difficult decision for people who read a lot of books in both formats.

    Happy BTT! :-)

Yes, it isn't really an either/or choice is it? There are too many other factors to take into account.

  8. This is looking like the standard answer from everyone...so it must be right :-)

    Happy BTT!

  9. Melody Says:

Nithin - I read more paperbacks too. Hardcovers are just too expensive, and I only buy them by my favourite authors. :)

    Table Talk - I agree. :D

Marianne - It does seems everyone has almost the same answer, doesn't it? ;)

  10. Amy Says:

Good answer, Good answer! Always go with the answer that yields more books!

    ;)

  11. Jane Says:

I have both too but prefer paperbacks as they are lighter and easier to read.

So true: paperbacks are easier to carry around. And that's a great point, because I think most of us readers carry a book with us wherever we go! :-) Unfortunately, right now I'm reading His Dark Materials trilogy and it's almost 1,000 pages and even though it's a paperback, it's quite unwieldy and hefty. Sacrifices, sacrifices. :-)

  13. Alice Says:

I want it all! Gimme all... LOL.

  14. Anonymous Says:

Those big paperbacks are really hard to manage, but I often find hardbacks bound so tightly that they are hard to read. So I mostly prefer to read paperbacks.

  15. Anonymous Says:

I agree. Hardcovers are collector items. Last longer!

  16. Idaho Gal Says:

Great response! I treasure my hardbacks!

  17. pussreboots Says:

I love all the printed formats too. Happy BTT.

  18. Melody Says:

    Amy - That's what I thought, hehe...

Jaimie - Exactly. Hardcovers are heavy and I don't want to add extra weight to my handbag. ;P

Trish - It's true we carry books wherever we go! We're hopeless, hehe. And as long as the story is good, anything is worth it! ;)

Alice - The more the merrier, isn't it? :D

Geraniumcat - I've the same thoughts, however I'll buy HCs by my favourite authors because I can't wait! LOL.

Gautami - I'm with you, but oh they can be so expensive. :P

She Rants - Thanks. I'm sure you do. Books are precious to all booklovers. ;)

Pussreboots - I love all formats, excluding ebooks and audio types. I guess I should've added this to my reply.

  19. If it has words in it, I'll read it.

  20. Melody Says:

    Great answer, Chris! ;)

  21. They both definitely have their advantages. And it's really what is in between the covers that matters.

  22. Melody Says:

You are right, Wendy. In the end, it is still the stories that count. :)

  23. CJ Says:

Yup - you nailed it exactly.

  24. I'm totally tickled by how many of us agree on this subject this week!

  25. Ana S. Says:

Ideally I'd go for both too! Hardcovers are beautiful, but I like to carry my paperbacks around.

  26. Melody Says:

CJ - I think most of us have the same thoughts. ;)

Susan - Me too. But I guess it's no surprise to me...

Nymeth - Yep! Hardcovers are too heavy to carry around, not to mention they're bulky too.
