Booking Through ThursdayCheck Spelling

For something different, I’m borrowing a question from … here! One of the very first questions ever at Booking Through Thursday. Back from 2005 when Laura owned the blog but, because it was so new, it didn’t get as many responses as it does now … so, why not revisit?

Here’s the question:
Some people read one book at a time. Some people have a number of them on the go at any given time, perhaps a reading in bed book, a breakfast table book, a bathroom book, and so on, which leads me to…

  1. Are you currently reading more than one book?
  2. If so, how many books are you currently reading?
  3. Is this normal for you?
  4. Where do you keep your current reads?

Usually I will read one book at a time, but there are also times that I read two books at one go. I do not have any fast rules when it comes to my reading... I just read whenever I feel like it. However, the maximum I would go is two books at a time. Any more than that and I will get confused with the plots, haha. I suppose I want to devote my full attention to the book(s) I am reading; I just want to make sure I devour them at my usual reading pace.

I am currently reading one book - an ARC titled The Lost Hours by Karen White, and I am enjoying every moment of it. I always keep my current reads in my bag, after all you never know when you would need it, right?

So what about you? Do you read more than one book at a time?

That's one thing I need to work on: I rarely bring my books with me when I leave the house. Mostly that's because I check a lot out from the library and they're all hardbacks. But sometimes it's worth it. I can't count the number of times I've been sitting somewhere, bored, thinking, "Man, I wish I would have brought my book with me." :)

Glad you're enjoying The Lost Hours!

  2. Blodeuedd Says:

I have heard much about the lost hours, have fun with that one :D

My answer is up with my yes I read many books :)

    BTT

  3. Julia Says:

I tend to take my books everywhere I go, no matter where I will be. Reading two books at a time is the maximum for me too. Like you, I might end up confusing the plots LOL!

I hope you enjoy THE LOST HOURS!

  4. Melody Says:

Jessica - I agree hardcovers aren't as handy as paperbacks thus it can be a little inconvenient to bring them out of the house. That's why I only read HCs at home. ;)

Blodeuedd - I too have heard lots of good reviews on that book and I can't wait to finish it. :)

Julia - Reading more than two books is definitely a challenge to me, haha. Yes, I'm enjoying The Lost Hours! :)

  5. Mervi Says:

When I read just print books, I used to read at most two books at the same time: one fiction and one non-fiction.

  6. Anonymous Says:

I don't carry my books usually. I try, but I forget. And then when I am waiting for something or someone I feel so stupid about not remembering to carry any book.

  7. Anonymous Says:

Yes, the paperback-hardback issue is one of the reasons I read multiple books at a time. But, then again, one of my carry-around books is a hardback one, lol.

Before I started blogging, I would generally read only one book at a time. I have a hard time focusing if I have more than one thing going on! But then realized that I actually could handle a book AND an audio at once. Then I started this thing with the kids...reading to them and also listening to a kid-friendly audio when we are in the car. So now, at any given time, I could potentially have four books going at once! Ahhh!

  9. Yvonne Says:

I definitely can't do more than two books at a time. Mainly it's one book at a time because I get confused easily. LOL

  10. Ana S. Says:

Normally it's too for me...one fiction, one non-fiction. Or maybe a novel and a short story collection. Two novels I have trouble with, though.

  11. Jess Says:

I never leave the house without a book either, you never know when you might get the chance to read!

  12. Kim Says:

I generally have a book with me because I never know when I'll get "stuck" somewhere.

I generally like to read one at a time but find myself reading more than one.

    Mine's up...come on over!

  13. Melissa Says:

I always have my audio book with me too!

  14. Beth F Says:

I'm usually a one-book-at-a-time person. Lately I've been trying to read one and listen to another. We'll see if I can keep the plots straight.

  15. Matt Says:

I'm a book monogamist for most of the time as well unless I'm reading a long epic type of novel like Gone with the Wind.

  16. J.S. Peyton Says:

I'm shamelessly promiscuous when it comes to my books. I'm reading five fiction books and five non-fiction books. I think this is the most I've ever been reading at one time. Usually, I read about six.

  17. Jo Says:

I tend to read a few at once. I wish I could read just one!

By the way, I've given you an award:

  18. I prefer to read one book at a time too, Melody, although, like you, sometimes I will read two at once. I don't get a lot of reading time sometimes and so sticking with one book often works best for me.

  19. Debi Says:

I have to admit that I sort of envy you. I really think I would prefer to read one book at a time, or even two. But with homeschooling, I generally have several going at a time. Add to that a fiction and a non-fiction and a poetry book just for me, and well, I've got a ton going at once. The thing I really hate about it is that it seems like it takes me forever to finish any of them!

  20. Jeane Says:

Like you, I rarely read more than two books at once, and usually it's just one. Too hard to keep track of different story lines, especially if the genres are similar.

  21. Kim L Says:

I am bad sometimes and read several books at a time, but usually one grabs my attention and I ignore the others. Then I go back, but I've lost the train of thought of that book... boo.

  22. Desert Rose Says:

I tried reading two books and boy was I confused!! guess it does not help when they are both crime/mystery LOL!

  23. The Bookworm Says:

I prefer to read one at a time, but sometimes I do read two or three. As long as they are different genres, I'm ok lol

  24. Melody Says:

Mervi - I think it's good not to read two books of the same genre to avoid any confusion. ;)

Violet - I cannot leave home without a book! I always make sure to have a book in my bag wherever I go. I guess it's a habit I couldn't get rid of. ;P

Kookaidmom - I only read HCs at home, for I don't want to carry the extra weight wherever I go, hehe.

Sandy - I wish I've the passion for audiobooks but unfortunately I couldn't get into them no matter how hard I try. And the same goes to ebooks. It feels so good holding a book IMO. ;)

Yvonne - I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. ;)

Nymeth - I think this is the best way of reading more than two books. It sure can be confusing reading two books of the same genre, eh? ;)

  25. Melody Says:

Jess - I'm glad we share the same sentiments! :)

Kim - There are some times I read more than two books but that's because the other is of different genre or it's a manga. ;P

Melissa, Beth - As I mentioned on my previous comment, I wish I'm into audiobooks. Hopefully I'll change my mind one day... ;)

Matt - I hear you, Matt! If I'm reading a thick book, I'd want to read another book as well! ;)

JS Peyton - Wow, I'm envious that you're able to read so many books at the same time!

Jo - Thank you so much for the award! :) You're too sweet!

Wendy - I wish I've more reading time too. I'd be so glad if I can finish a book within a few days' time, hehe.

Debi - That's funny, because I envy you for being able to read so many books at a time! :D

Jeane - Exactly! I don't read more than two books and I always make sure they are of the different genre.

Kim - I used to do that at a stage but I give up since I want to give my full attention to a book which I'm reading. I rarely have time for re-reads so I guess this is the best option for me.

Desert Rose - I couldn't read two books of the same genre, I get confused easily, LOL.

Naida - Yes, as long as they're of the different genre, it should be fine. ;)

  26. Josette Says:

I prefer to read one book at one time. True, I'll also get confused if read two or more at the same time. I am in awe of those who can read two, three or four books at the same time! Incredible.

  27. Melody Says:

Josette - I'm in awe too. Whenever someone tells me he/she is reading more than two books at a time, I just go speechless, LOL.
