Which is worse?

Finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author, or
Reading a completely disappointing book by an author that you love?

I have to admit both experiences are equally disappointing to me, but I think I will be more disappointed if the book I read by my favourite author is a letdown.

I have came across one or two of my favourite authors who have changed their writing styles and decided to write for other genre. I have no problem with that but in my opinion, I feel some authors are great in writing a certain genre but not the other.

But I think my greatest disappointment is to wait for a long time for my favourite author to release a book! One of my favourite authors takes about a year or two to release a book, and to me that is a long wait!

What about you? Which is the worse for you?

So true, they might be good at one genre but not as much on another

  2. Julia Says:

I have to agree with you on this, Melody. Both way would be let down to me. But for me, it be the worse to read a disappointed book by my favorite author that I love. And the genres changes, I AGREE with you on that :)

I be posting mine later, so look for it when I able to post it LOL

    Have a good holidays/weekend!

  3. Melody Says:

Blodeuedd - I'm glad we share the same sentiments.

Julia - I'm greatly disappointed by a few of my favourite authors that have decided to change their style and the genre, but then again that does not stop me from reading them but I think I'll be more choosy.

You too have a good weekend! :)

  4. Julia Says:

That the truth for me too. I would still read their books :)

Thanks! I hope to buy more books this weekend! Especially NR book LOL

I think my biggest issue is having established love over a period of years (good example, Patricia Corwell), knowing you can buy everything they relelase without fear, then bam! Everything they do suddently goes to hell in a handbasket. I just read a discussion yesterday about this...so how many chances do you give this author before you give them up? My problem I guess is that I am too loyal. I go on buying their rubbish, forever, with the eternal optimism that they will turn themselves around!

  6. Dot Says:

I have to agree with you that it is disppointing waiting for a favourite author to release a book and it is even worse if you don't enjoy it once you finally get to read it! Have a lovely weekend!

  7. Jo Says:

I think they're both equally disappointing. It does' happen to me very oten though!

  8. Anonymous Says:

I picked the first option but have to agree that the waiting is worse than both!

  9. Beth F Says:

I hate waiting for the next book in a series--I get so impatient! If the book is a dud after waiting 18 months for it, that's horrible!

  10. Yvonne Says:

I agree about some authors being good at one genre and not another. I do find it disappointing when a favorite author jumps ship to another genre and the books no longer appeal to me.

  11. BooksPlease Says:

I'm undecided on this one. I hadn't thought of when an author changes genre - that is disappointing if they can't pull it off.

  12. Jess Says:

I know the waiting for a new book can be terrible. And then I always have really high expectations because I have waited so long!

  13. Anonymous Says:

I really like your answer. I also agree that waiting for your favourite author to come out with a new novel to be worse than both the options.

  14. Debi Says:

That's an interesting question! I agree, they're both very disappointing because our expectations are so high in both instances.

  15. Violet Says:

I am so with you on the genre. Al though I love Nora Roberts, I just couldn't get into any of her J.D.Robb books, so dissapointing. Although I know people who like the J.D.Robb books too.

  16. JessicaLeigh Says:

I agree! There's something about the faith and loyalty that you build when it comes to your favorite author.

And wait for one to two years for a book is SO disappointing!

  17. ~*Kaila*~ Says:

I agree that a book by a beloved author is more disappointing.

    My full answer is here.

P.S. - This layout is awesome.

  18. Anonymous Says:

I totally agree with you. Happy BTT!

  19. Matt Says:

What matters to me is whether I'll venture into another book of a new author. It's about building the credit.

I'm extra cautious about reading another if the author is not good in my book. At least I wouldn't buy it but borrow it.

As to the anticipation of a new book, I can't wait to read the new book by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

  20. Nise' Says:

I have had a couple of favorite authors switch genres that just didn't anything for me. Its okay though, because there are so many authors to discover!

  21. Alice Says:

So true, Melody. Waiting for a book by a favourite authot to come out is a torture... ;-)

  22. It truly depends. I don't hate authors if they write bad books!

BTW, everything distils into reading is my new blog. Please do visit it, subscribe to it or follow it! Do help me spread the word.

  23. Melody, can you help me find a good 3 column template. I can't seem to downlaod any of it. I need the codes straight away.

    everything distils into reading

  24. Keri Says:

I've had both happen to me, and I think that getting disappointed by an author you love is worse. At least with a new author, you haven't fallen in love with his/her work. You have no real investment there. But when an author you love writes something awful, an author that you have invested a lot of time, money, energy, and love, it's an incredible let down.

  25. Melody Says:

Sandy - Oh gosh, I do have that same experience with some authors too! I'll not buy all of their books but will only buy them if they interest me.

Dot - Waiting can be real torture when books by my favourite authors are concerned. But I agree nothing is more disappointing if finding they're not worth the wait though.

Jo - I'm glad these two experiences don't happen to me very often too. ;)

Jennifer - Indeed the waiting is the worse among all. ;)

Beth - Oh, I hate waiting for the next book in a series! Not only that, I tend to forget some plots if the waiting is too long!

Yvonne - Usually I'll still read the other genre if the authors have decided to change their genre but still, I won't buy them if they don't interest me.

Margaret - It sure is disappointing if an author has changed genre and the story doesn't captivate me the way his/her other books are.

Jess - Ah yes! I tend to have more expectations if I've waited on a book for some time. ;)

Aaron - I know the waiting can drive me crazy, but then I also understand the author needs some time to write his/her new book. After all, it's the quality that matters. ;)

  26. Melody Says:

Debi - I think I tend to have higher expectations when my favourite authors are concerned. ;P

Violet - I've only read two books by JD Robb so far, but like you I'd prefer her books as in Nora Roberts more than the first. ;)

Jessica - I think I'm loyal to a few authors, but that's because they haven't disappoint me so far!

Kaila - I'm glad we share the same thoughts. And I'm glad you like my layout. :)

    Charli - Thanks!

Matt - I think I'll buy books by a new author if they're highly recommended or if their blurbs sound interesting to me. Otherwise, it'd be risky to me since I don't visit the libraries nowadays.

Nise' - I was disappointed and upset that one or two of my favourite authors have changed genres and their books no longer interest me, but I'm glad to find more new authors too.

Alice - Indeed! Waiting for a year or two for a book by my favourite author is simply too much for me, LOL.

Gautami - I don't hate it either if the authors write something unsatisfactory but then I'll be more choosy when their books are concerned.

I've sent you an email of the link to get the 3 column template. I hope you've received it.

Keri - I'm glad not many of my favourite authors have disappoint me so far. And the best thing is discovering a new author and liking what he/she writes and can't wait for the next book to release!

  27. Iliana Says:

Oh you are so right, both of those scenarios are bad and what you said, waiting for a book from a favorite author is just not fun either. For example, I know I'm always anxious for the next Maisie Dobbs book! :)

  28. Melody Says:

Iliana - I guess I am too impatient when it comes to my favourite authors! ;P
