Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading on the go… I always like to have a book with me at all times – call it a nerdy grown-up security blanket – and rarely do I leave the house without slipping one into my bag (even if I KNOW I’m not going to have a chance to read it). Do you take a book with you? Do you take whatever book you’re currently reading, or do you have a special on-the-go book? And do you have a preference for a these types of book (paperback, hardback; short stories; poetry etc)?
I always bring a book with me wherever I go, unless it is a very short trip (i.e. buying takeaways from nearby food outlet etc). I always take the public transport, so not only I could pass the time but I could catch up on my reading too. And I always take the book I am currently reading. I rarely buy hardcovers so most of the books in my pile are paperbacks. Not only they are cheaper, but they are easier to carry around wherever I go. I only read my hardcovers at home, and I have the habit of removing the jackets as I read since I do not want to wrinkle them.
How about you?
I have a huge purse so hardbacks go right in.
Musing Monday 20
I'd love to be able to read in the car (that 6 hour car trip coming up Friday would be a piece of cake) but I get migraines and motion sickness if I read while moving :(
Here's mine
Bluestocking - One of these days, I'm going to get a bigger purse for this purpose too, hehe.
Jen - Funnily, I can't read in the car although I've no problem with the other transport.
I'm a dust jacket remover too, I'm always so worried that I'm going to tear it.
Rebecca - Glad I'm not alone when it comes to removing of the jacket. ;)
Sometimes I wish public transportation was a more feasible option for me. Think about how much reading I could get done!
I usually take a book with me when going to do little things like picking up takeout! I have been caught unawares by a long line too many time.
My purse is already weighed down with reading glasses, cell phone, MP3 player, and camera (not mention wallet, comb, etc.) -- I can't imagine cramming in a hardback book as well!
I usually have a book in my purse at all times as well. I have to remember to remove it if I'm book shopping so the clerks don't think I have sticky fingers!! :) You never know when you might need that book and I always regret when I don't have it. Paperbacks are definitely easier to carry around! Agree completely.
I carry a book everywhere. I always have a few on the go so when I have an appointment or something like that I choose a smaller one to throw in my bag.
I never leave home without a book. You just never know when you'll have to end up waiting so having a book is the best. I love the look of hardbacks but for on the go reading it's gotta be a paperback :)
It's very rare for me to leave the house without a book! And I prefer paperbacks too.
I'm a jacket remover. Drives my hubby crazy when I do but i can't stand the things. He's forever finding dust jackets around the house and asking me what to do with them.
I've been caught places several times with out a book. I'm going to have to rethink not taking a book everywhere. :)
My post is up now.

I like to bring a book along with me too :)
When I was reading the Harry Potter series I would lug those big hardcovers around with me! lol

Wendy - Public transport is great; the only thing that put me off is the crowd!
Nicole - I agree...although I rarely bring a book with me if I'm picking up takeout because I know it won't take me too much time. ;)
Beth - I know what you mean! That's why I still think paperbacks are still the best especially for this purpose! :)
Miaomiao - I can't read when travelling in a moving vehicle, however I've no trouble with the other transport.
Trish - LOL. Yes, I guess I can't read my book in the bookstores for that reason! :P
Dar - I wish I could do that, but I always go with the book that I'm currently reading. I want to finish the book asap. ;)
Iliana - Hardcovers are attractive, but it's a hassle carrying around. With a book in hand, the time seems to pass by so quickly even though the queue is long, isn't it? ;)
Nymeth - Me too! Can't leave home without a book, or I'd feel something is missing!
Robin - LOL. Dust jackets are pretty, but we're too afraid of messing them. Like you, I hate to be caught in places without a book...waiting in line is probably the worst!
Naida - I don't think I've ever carry a hardcover out of the house, no matter how bad I want to read the book. It's not fun when you've to squeeze yourself inside the cramped buses/trains! Yikes!
I carry a book wherever I go! I usually glue to my current read: coffee over breakfast, laundry, travel, lunch,...It doesn't matter if it's hardback or trade paperback, although I usually buy the latter. My friend in Hong Kong always makes fun of my wearing a bag even when I'm traveling.
Matt - LOL. I understand what you mean. I always pack my books whenever I travel... Imagine the lugguage filled with books and those new acquisitions bought during the trip! ;)
