Booking Through ThursdayCheck Spelling

What is the best book you ever bought for yourself?
And, why? What made it the best? What made it so special?

I was in for a surprise when I checked today's BTT and saw there are two sets of questions being asked. What a nice treat!

I could not answer the first question because I think most of the books I bought are pretty good, or else I would not have spent money on them! If I have to answer this, I would say that buying hardcovers are the best because I rarely buy them and I view them as treats or rewards for myself. Usually I would only buy hardcovers when they are on sales or if they are written by my favourite authors.

Do you give books as gifts?
To everyone? Or only to select people?
How do you feel about receiving books as gifts?

I love the idea of giving books as gifts. Books provide knowledge and entertainment, and I am sure any booklover will appreciate these. As much as I love reading and buying books, I understand that not everyone shares the same passion as me, so I make sure to get books only for those who loves reading.

Besides being a giver, I love being the receiver too! I always get excited whenever I get books in the mail or as a gift from someone. Nothing cheers me up more than getting books; and the more the merrier!

I agree with you, that books provide knowlee and entertainment. I do appreciate those reading. And I too love to be the receiver too. It always make me excited when I get them in my mails :)

"Books provide knowledge and entertainment" - When you put it like that, what better gift could there be? :-)

  4. Melody Says:

    Thanks, Jennifer! :)

Books as presents are the best. I especially love it when people who know me well enough buy me beautiful editions of my favourite books. Bliss.

    Hi!

I rarely buy hardcover books too, too pricey. But I bought my hardcover version of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas from Big Bookshop for only RM12.90! In Borders, it's RM60++. That's probably the best bargain ever!

"The more, the merrier" Yeah, I like that too!! :)

The sound of that UPS truck can cause me to do a happy dance!

Don't you love to see that tell-tale-shaped package under the tree?

I love getting and giving books :) I particularly like the fact that giving a book we love is like giving a bit of ourselves.

I am aware that some of my friends are not readers. But over the years I have at least convinced them to read a book or two. What a mission that has been! :)

I pretty much like all of the books I get for myself. I do have a few schteenkers from time to time, but those are really few and far between. I have some I put on the keeper shelf, so some of those are special. Adriana Trigiani's Big Stone Gap series is a keeper. I also bought them for my sister, for my mom and my sister-in-law.

That answers #2, I do give books as gifts. Not for everyone, only the genuine booklovers of my family and friends.

    Mae - I agree with you! :)

Josette - That's a great bargain! I wanted to read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas too!

Sally - Yep! Me too! LOL.

Beth - I'm hoping to get some books for Christmas/Birthday this year! I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed, ha!

Nymeth - "I particularly like the fact that giving a book we love is like giving a bit of ourselves." I'm with you here!

Matt - It's definitely a mission to me! Most of my friends don't read so it can be pretty hard convincing them to do so, haha.

Vickie - Sometimes, I'll buy a few of my favourite books to my friends who loves reading although we don't share the same taste in books. I feel happy when they tell me they like the book after they have read it. It's a great feeling!

Social Frog - Thanks for visiting my blog too. :)

  18. Hi, Melody! I am not sure I could list one book as being the best I ever bought for myself either. Like you, I tend to only buy hardcovers if I have a coupon or they are on sale. Only in rare cases do I spend full price on them.

I enjoy picking out books for my family--especially my parents and mother-in-law. :-)

  19. Melody Says:

Wendy - Hardcovers are treats to me! Whenever I visit the bookstores I'll head to the new releases section and hoping they'll have promotions for new HCs. The chances are rare but when they do, I always feel like I've struck lottery! LOL.
