Melody

I said in August, when we talked about fan mail, that I planned on expanding that to live meetings when the time was right. Well, that time is now!

  • Have you ever met one of your favorite authors? Gotten their autograph?
  • How about an author you felt only so-so about, but got their autograph anyway? Like, say, at a book-signing a friend dragged you to?
  • How about stumbling across a book signing or reading and being so captivated, you bought the book?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Nope. I have never been to any booksigning or have the chance to meet any of my favourite authors (the reason being I'm not living in the US, or I might have missed when they were here). Although I didn't get to meet them in person, I am very fortunate that I managed to get some of their autographs - in the mail! This happened a few years back when I visited their websites and left them some comments, telling them how much I love their books and if it is possible for them to send me an autograph. Most of them replied they will, and some even go to the extent of sending me bookplates and other goodies. I was so thrilled! Even though we didn't meet face-to-face, but I felt the exchange between the author and myself which is another great experience for me.

  1. I did not know that writers sent their autographs in mail! May be I should try getting a few too.

    Thanks for the info!

Just goes to show you that authors are pretty cool.

That's really nice! Soeme authors take their readers for granted, but you obviously found the good guys.

  4. Alice Says:

I hope I meet the good guys too! I share somwhat similar answer as yours, Melody. I have a book signed by the author too and she's the assistant to Olympia Dukakis. Absolutely wonderful lady. Happy BTT!

I'd feel a lot less embarrassed asking by email than in person - not so awkward if they don't want to know.

  6. Daphne Says:

I might have to try the email approach. I never thought of that before.

I've had a couple of those exchanges as well -- great fun!

    I've never been either.

I wouldn't have thought of getting through the mail either but then I'm not really into autograph collecting. Happy BTT.

Dear All, thanks for your comments. :)

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that my favourite authors will visit us one day soon! It's always great to know more of the authors in person, although I know I'll be very nervous to speak with them! What a dilemma. LOL.

    Happy BTT!

  11. When you come to California for a visit, you will have to come in April so that you can attend the L.A. Times Festival of Books. :-)

  12. Melody Says:

All right! Thanks for the info, Wendy! :D

And if there's a chance in future, I'd love to meet up with you for an event like this. ;)

I don't think it would ever occur to me to ask for autographs via the mail...but I do know that even the most successful authors love to hear from people who like their work. Even when you're making decent money, feedback is better than chocolate, you know?

  14. I felt the exchange between the author and myself.

    Neat, isn't it? :)

  15. Melody Says:

Hi Melissa! I definitely agree with you on that. :D

Hi Alison! Indeed it is. :)
