My teaser sentences for today [The Orange Girl by Jostein Gaarder (Pg 1)]:
My dad died eleven years ago. I was only four then. I never thought I'd hear from him again, but now we're writing a book together.
These are the very first lines of this book, and I'm the one doing the writing, but my dad will get his chance a bit later. He is the one with most to tell.
Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about lending books...
A few weeks back we had a question about borrowing books, this week I was wondering what your policy was on lending books. Do you lend books to anyone? Just friends? Only big readers? How long are they allowed to have them?
Most of my friends are non-readers, so no matter how much I gush about a book or tell them that they are more than welcome to borrow my books, they will only smile politely and decline my offer. Thus, I know what not to discuss whenever I am with them. (And that explains why I am so happy to start this blog because I am free to rave or rant about without anyone rolling their eyes on me, haha. Well, except my fellow bookbloggers friends of course!)
So, that answers the above question. No, I do not lend books to anyone. And I could never lend a book to someone whom I barely know and trust he/she will take good care of my book(s) and return them on time. I treat my books with care, so I would expect anyone who borrow my books would do the same.

In terms of your Monday Musings, one of the reasons why I started this blog was so that I could chat about books with others--especially since I have very few friends who are readers. I made the mistake of lending books out to non-readers in the past and haven't gotten most of the books back (as I've fallen out of touch with some and others are in complete denial of borrowing the book!!!). Now I only lend to readers--and mostly people I work with so that I can harass them if needed. ;)

Before I scraped friendship with the people at my coffee shop, I had this "don't ask, don't tell" policy with lending books. I never initiated the business fearing I might never get my books back! Not that people are ill-intended but sometimes people, especially not big readers, aren't as careful with books as I am.

I do sometimes lend my books out, most often to family, but sometimes to friends and coworkers I think I can trust. I have been burned before, but even then I knew going into the situation that I might not get my book back or in the condition I lent it in. I think a person has to be prepared for those possibilities if he or she does decide to loan out a book.

Why do I get the feeling that the "rolling eyes" part is referred to me? LOL !
Of course it wonderful to have online friends around the world who have the same love as you do --- reading. And I feel the same way you do too :) However, I do lent books to my friends but always give them the rules before lenting it to them. I even write their names down and the books they borrowed so that I know where my books are LOL ! But those who I lent it to, I trust them :)

I think it's good to list down the name of the persons who borrow books from us, especially if we belong to those forgetful types, LOL.
