Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about rereading books!
Do you ever reread books? Do you have any favorites that you like to reread over and over, maybe once a year? What are they? What do you think you get out of rereading a book? Why do you do it?
I rarely reread books; not because I do not want to, but because I have too many unread books waiting for me to read. To make matters worse (like any booklovers will do), I keep buying them so it is like the pile never goes down despite my efforts to keep up with my reading.
However, I do reread books once in a while. Usually they are the ones which left a deep impression on me and/or I love the stories so much that I want to relive that great reading pleasure again. Here are a few titles which I would like to reread over and over again:
- Tokyo (aka The Devil of Nanking) by Mo Hayder
- The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
- In the Woods by Tana French
- Talyn by Holly Lisle
- Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene
- Sweet Dreams series by various authors
So are there any books you would like to reread?
Hi Melody, I will also not hesitate to re-read the Nancy Drew series plus Pride and Prejudice. I also have To Kill a Mockingbird and Life of Pi on my list. :)
I would love to hear what you think of "Outcasts Of Skagaray". The book was written out of sympathy for the unwanted children of the world. You can preview it by reading the sample chapters on www.threeswans.com.au Best wishes from one book lover to another. I too have enough books to fill a room, and keep getting more.
Alice - I've To Kill a Mockingbird in my pile, just haven't got around to reading it yet. ;)
Andrew - Thanks for visiting! I've not heard of that book but thanks for telling me. :) Hope to see you around here.
You're welcome, Melody, and thanks for the kind response. Interesting blogs - I could get engrossed here for hours.
"not because I do not want to, but because I have too many unread books waiting for me to read."
Yep, same here. There are some old favourites I really want to revisit, though...I miss them. The His Dark Materials trilogy, Middlesex, several Discworld books, etc. I want to make an effort to do more re-reading next year.
I'm not a very big re-reader of books but I swear I think it'd be a hoot to reread some of those Sweet Dreams series books. I was addicted to those when I was a teen :)
Andrew - Thanks again! :)
Nymeth - I'm hoping to do more re-reading next year too... but I think the chances of getting to them is pretty slim (with the ever growing pile and the baby stuff going on!). ;)
Iliana - I've managed to find some of them from ebay! Seeing those covers again brings back such wonderful memories! I can't wait to read them again soon. :D
Lately I have not re-read many books just because there are so many new ones I want to open. But I do enjoy re-reading my favorites, and sometimes when in the mood for something familiar and comfortable nothing else will do. In fact, that's what I base my book-buying on: is it a book I've read, and know I'd want to read again? Those are the ones that make it into my home library.
Jeane - That's it! We've too many new books to read! ;) As for my book buying, I just go with anything as long as they interest me.
At one time, I tried to reread nonfiction books. I never found the book to have the same impact the second time around.
J Kaye - I rarely read nonfictions nowadays... I wish I've the mood to read any of those one day soon.
