Musing Mondays

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading/blogging during the holidays…

How does your reading (or your blogging) fare in the holiday months? Do you read more or less? Do you have to actively make time to read?

On an average, I read about 6 books per month (which to me is a small amount considering most of my blogger friends read about 10 books or more given the same time, but hey I am not complaining. After all, everyone of us has different reading schedules and as long as we find some time to read, it is all good, isn't it?).

Anyway, I do notice I have not been reading much beginning end November because of the holiday season where this time I will start to do a little shopping and getting ready to send off all the greeting cards. And then of course there is always my reading mood that has control over what books I should read, as well.

What about you?

I probably read almost around the same amount as you, except I read less than you do. That might be because my reading moods and the holidays upcoming. And maybe it'll help if you take no more joint-reading for awhile, so that it'll help you to read more :)

You sure were a busy bee with the holidays greeting cards and shopping, Melody! I hope you have a good holiday :)

I need to get going with my holiday gift thingy already! LOL!

Reading shouldn't be a competition and we should all read according to how we like it. :D

  4. You and I are not all that different, I think, on this subject. We read about the same amount of books a month. And like for you, November tends to be when I am preparing for the upcoming winter holidays, which take away from my books.

Thank you, by the way, for the Christmas card and bookmark! That was so sweet of you, Melody.

I second what Alice said. Reading isn't a competition. I read lesser than you know! Like 4 books per month or even 2 books only some months like this November! It all depends on my allowance that's why. And no libraries here.

I haven't started shopping! I feel like it's too early.

Readerbuzz - Let's us hope we've a great reading month despite the holidays and all!

Julia - I love joint readings! They're always so much fun! In fact, I think they do help a lot with my reading progress, hehe.

I hope you have a great holiday too!

Alice - I definitely agree with you on the reading issue. Reading is suppose to be fun. :)

Wendy - You're most welcome, Wendy! I hope you like the bookmark. :)

Cutlex - Yes, reading is definitely not a competition, but sometimes I just wish I've more time so I can read more books, haha.

Denysaco - Thanks for visiting my blog!

I read at max 3 to 4 books a month! And you are right, i am also not complaining! And yeah, the holiday season, always dampens my reading spirit! I will be in a celebrating mood and with the enthu of the folks around u, sitting quietly on a side with a book never happens :)

buying gifts? sending cards? a Christmas tree?
ok, they are important, but certainly so is my reading! ;-)

  10. Debi Says:

Yeah, I'm like you...my reading tends to slip during this time of year, with all the stress and bustle of the holidays. Which probably means that we should try even harder to sneak in that reading time, huh? After all, what could possibly be more stress-relieving than losing oneself in a good book, right?

  11. Melody Says:

Veens - Ditto on the holiday mood, hehe.

Caite - We definitely have to make some time for our reading, eh? ;)

Debi - I'm definitely with you there! :D

Stacy - Oh, speaking of challenges, I don't think I'll be able to finish some of those on my list. Hopefully next year will be better!

  12. Six books a month is quite respectable. Not everyone has the time for ten (!) a month.

As for my reading habits, they don't relate to the common holidays, but rather the actual season. For instance, this year it has rained very little in November so I've been in a bit of a reading ditch. A few months ago, it rained quite a bit and I got a lot of reading done. I'm with you in regards to the reading mood (mine is apparently linked to how much water is falling out of the sky) and suspect that ultimately that's what determines everything.

"After all, everyone of us has different reading schedules and as long as we find some time to read, it is all good, isn't it?"

Exactly! As long as we're reading and enjoying what we read, it's all good. My reading slowed down in November as well, and I suspect it will even more in December. That's just inevitable with all the holiday preparations.

  14. bermudaonion Says:

I definitely don't read as much over the holidays because there is so much other stuff going on.

  15. Melody Says:

Biblibio - Ah, the rainy season does make one want to stay at home, snuggle under a duvet and read, isn't it?

Nymeth & Kathy - Yes, the holiday preparations (and not to mention the holiday mood as well) does affect our reading, but we only get to celebrate Christmas only once a year, right? :P
