Musing Mondays

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about holiday season…

With the holiday season now upon us, have you left any hint – subtle or otherwise – for books family and friends might buy you for Christmas? Do you like to receive books, or do you prefer certificates so you can choose your own?

Most of my friends and my family knew of my passion for books and reading, so I don't think there is a need to drop any hint or otherwise. Moreover, I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable if I would ask someone to buy something for me, and after all it is the person's thought and gesture that count for everything.

It does not matter if I receive books or certificates because both are equally wonderful gifts in my opinion.

What about you?

Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia from The Printed Page.

I received one book (via BookMooch) last week:

1) Zel by Donna Jo Napoli

So what books came into your house last week?

I don't like to give gift card. they seem impersonal. but I love to get them. being able to shop, especailly for books, and not having to pay is like another gift.

I'm thrilled when I get bookstore gift cards because they're so much fun to redeem!

  3. If asked, as often my mother and mother-in-law do, I sometimes will offer them a title of a book or two I am interested in, but it isn't very often. It is difficult for people to give me actual books as gifts since I have so many already. There's always the risk of duplication. As it is, I so rarely get books from my family other than my husband and brother-in-law (who gives me gift cards). I really prefer gift cards when it comes right down to it.

Zel looks like it will be a good book, Melody. I hope you enjoy it.

    Have a great week.

I go for the gift cards personally. Especially Amazon, so I can order books for my Kindle any time I am so inspired!

  5. I'm going to ask for books from my relatives this year. What's Zei about?

    Here is mine

Caite - I think giving certificates are impersonal too, but still I too love receiving them though. ;)

    Kathy - Indeed they are!

Wendy - My friends and family rarely give me books, because they know I'd rather buy them on my own, LOL. Plus, like you said, they fear the risk of duplication.

You too have a great week!

Sandy - That'd be a great idea! And not to mention it's so convenient too, considering it's in an electronic format.

Bluestocking - I read it is based on the fairy tale Rapunzel. I love fairy tales retellings!

Well if they'd ask you what you wanted that wouldn't be embarrassing anymore right? :) It's a good thing though that they're aware for your passion but what if receive a book not quite to your liking?

In my case I have fully expressed that I wanted cash :)) Quite thick eh?

  9. It is the thought that counts!

I think I will love to be led to a bookstore and asked to pick whatever I want.. but then the host will have to find some other business to engross themselves, as I will be stuck there for hours. Well I think gift cards are the BEST! :D

And Zel's cover is so cute :)

  11. Serena Says:

    Happy reading this week.

  12. Ana S. Says:

I do give my family hints, in the shape of an actual wishlist :P They demand me to! They say they can't keep track of which books I already have otherwise :P

And you mooched Zel! Definitely a memorable book.

  13. Iliana Says:

I have such a hard time asking for things I want too. I think though my family and friends know I'm pretty happy with anything bookish :)

  14. Melody Says:

Cutlex - Well, I'll tell if they ask me, LOL.

    Alice - Thanks, Alice! :)

Book Resort - It sure is!

Veens - I can relate to that, LOL!

Gautami - I can't wait to read it!

Serena - Hope you have a great reading week too!

    Nymeth - I think that's good! I wouldn't want to have a duplicate copy. :P

Iliana - Books are the greatest gift IMO, haha.
