Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about bookmarks… What do you use to mark your place while reading? Do you have a definite preference? Do you use bookmarks, paper, or (gasp) turn down the pages? If you use bookmarks, do you have a favourite one?
Bookmarks comes in various forms to me. They can be a piece of rough paper, a post-it tag or a pocket-size calendar in namecard form, etc. Whatever they are and as long as they fit between the pages, I use them as bookmarks. But of course, my favourite bookmark will be... well, a bookmark. I am especially fond of bookmarks that have a ribbon or colourful threads attached to it.
Ever since I received a bookmark from Marny (I won a book from her), I have been using it for marking my books because it is so useful! It comes with an elastic band so I can just place the bookmark between the designated page and then slip the elastic band over the cover. I do not have to worry about the bookmark slipping out of its place or lost it at all. (Thanks again, Marny!)
So, what do you use as bookmarks? And what's your favourite bookmark?
I use magnetic bookmarks.

I love bookmarks. I collect them so I probably don't have a favorite one but one thing I do try to do is choose a bookmark that fits with the book. Yep, complete booknerd here :)
That bookmark sounds so good.
Musing through bookmarking
I forgot about post-its when I was writing my post, but I use those all the time! Ever use notecards? I've been using them a lot recently but I'm not sure why.
Hmmm... I've never thought about using a post-it note and I always have those lying around. The bookmark with the rubber band is a great idea too!
Bluestocking - Magnetic bookmarks are great, aren't they? :)
Iliana - Wow, I think that's nice! I might want to do that someday! ;P
Gautami - It is! I'm so glad to have it! :D
D Dubs - I love post-its. The best thing is they stick to the page and won't leave any marks after using it!
Kate - Post-it notes is so useful! I also love it that they come in various colours! :)
I use whatever that is handy, I never have a bookmark collection. :)
Like you I am not too particular about my bookmark. I use anything that I see around. Sometimes I have even used the luggage name tags used at airports. I got a beautiful book thong from Jace, I tend to use that a little more :)
I always wonder how that elastic bookmark works. Doesn't it bend the pages or something?
I have never really used bookmarks, maybe as a child.
I am also a whatever is handy kind of bookmarker.
Matt - I used to collect bookmarks when I was in primary school but I think I stopped doing so when I was in... secondary school? There're just too many for me to collect, LOL.
Violet - Ah, how come I've never thought of using luggage tags? Now you've given me an idea! ;)
Well, the elastic band is not that thin enough so that it'll bend the bookcovers... I'd hate it if the bookmarks I use cause the pages to wrinkle.
Social Frog - Hmm... I wonder what do you use to mark your pages?
Erika - You know, I've heard of some readers who use sweet wrappers as bookmarks... I don't think I'd want to use them since I fear they might attract ants!
I normally use whatever I find in front of me. It could be movie films, movie stub, ribbon, papers, envelopes...just anything that are flat.
But lately I've been using the bookmarks that I got from Bookmark Exchange that my yahoo group been doing every years. I received lot of bookmarks that brought from bookstores or hand-made bookmark which was made from friends. I got lot of thong bookmarks too. And I love magnetic bookmarks or the ribbon bookmarks. The kind where you can wrap the ribbon from the inside and the outside of the books. Really great stuff.
But I also make my own bookmarks made from scrap papers that are normally use for scrapbooks too.
Julia - Yeah, that sounds like me, LOL. I use whatever that's handy.
I think handmade bookmarks are lovely! They're special and precious to me especially if they're given to me by family or friends! :)
I make my own bookmarks. I use the little metal shepard's hook and string beads from them. I make them for friends, for the kids' teachers...I share the love!
That bookmark from Marny sounds great! I like that it won't fall out.
I love bookmarks. Most of mine have cats on them or they are from authors.
I love decorative bookmarks, but I usually just end up looking at them, not putting them in my books. Because I always want to jot down notes, so I put a slip of blank paper between the pages and use it to write on, as well.
That sounds like a very useful bbokmark, as I'm always afraid of losing mine.
I use anything that can fit inside the book. lol that elastic band one sounds goo.

I have a tendency to lose them, so don't buy or collect bookmarks. If I lose a free one - no big deal. I use whatever is handy. Great question
My answer is up finally.
Sandy - Wow, I'm impressed that you make your own bookmarks! And it's great that you share the love! :)
Beth - Yeah! I love Marny's bookmark!
Yvonne - Ah yes! I did receive one or two bookmarks from authors and they're keepers! :)
Jeane - I admit some of them are too beautiful to use!! I like your idea about using a blank paper and jotting down notes. I guess I've to use method next time! ;)
Zetor, Robin - I've learnt not to use too pretty bookmarks for marking the pages! Now I keep them locked in my drawer along with my other collections, LOL.
Naida - I've only one of those elastic band bookmark so it's precious to me! ;P
I wish I hadn't missed this one! I use bookmarks all the time, the traditional kind anyway. I have a hard time reading without them because I use them to go from one line to the next (keeps me from skipping ahead to see what happens next lol).
Jen - Yeah, I love bookmarks! Some of the prints/designs are just too pretty!
I've just gotten a few complimentary book thongs from my purchases at BookXcess and I hope to post about it soon.
I like the idea of elastic bookmark. :D
That's great, Alice! I can't wait to see them. :)
