Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about recording your reading…
Do you keep track of what and/or how many books you read? How long have you been doing this? What's your favorite tracking method, and why? If you don't keep track, why not? (question courtesy of MizB)
Keeping track of the books I read has never crossed my mind until I started blogging (which was three years ago). When I first started this blog, it was merely out of curiosity and fun. But once that phase was over (which did not take too long after exploring other book blogs), I found it to be a great idea to keep track of the books I read and review them at the same time thus I follow this route where I am today.
And guess what? I love this method! Not only do I manage to keep track, review but also I get to know many bookbloggers along the way. Why shouldn't I have done this earlier? I had asked myself this question a few times; but then it is always better to be late than never, isn't it?
So, how about you? Do you keep track of the books you read?
After reading my reason for starting this blog, it is now time to pass on some awards in the act of karma and also a way of telling my friends I appreciate their support and their friendship even though we have not met in person.
Sandy from You've Gotta Read This presented me with the Proximidade Award. (Thank you, Sandy!) Sandy's blog is one of my regular reads and not to mention she is also one of my favourite blogger friends.
"This blog invests and believes in the Proximity - nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this clever-written text into the body of their award."
I received this award from Alice some time ago and passed on the same to a few friends so this time around I will pass it to some friends whom blogs I have lately discovered and are now my regular reads. They are:
Jessica from Paperback Passion
S. Krishna from S. Krishna's Books
Dot from Scribbles
Tammy from The Book Reports
And the following friends whom I have not passed on this award but want them to get it this time around:
Naida from The Bookworm
Matt from A Guy's Moleskine Notebook
Violet from Violet Crush
Dar from Peeking Between the Pages
* * * * *
And then, there is Beth from Beth Fish Reads presented me the Zombie Chicken Award. How cool is that? (Thank you, Beth!)
"The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken - excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all..."
I bestow the award to the following friends who makes the effort of posting their blogs regularly and whose blogs I always enjoy reading:
Alice from Hello, My Name Is Alice
Nymeth from Things Mean A Lot
J. Kaye from J. Kaye Book Blog
Amy from My Friend Amy
Joanne from The Book Zombie
I think I said it before but I'll say it again, I just love the look of your blog! And it so seems like a little notebook with all your bookish thoughts!
Thank you so much for the award! I'm honored!!!
Jenners - Thanks again! I'm so glad you like my new template! :)
Krishna - You're welcome, Krishna! :)
yay...my second award this week, or rather in the last 7 days. Thanks Melody, you are the best :)
And congrats on your awards...you deserve them obviously.
I never tracked my books before, but I always wanted to, somehow never got around to it. Like you my blog helps me keep track of them and it really helps.
I use the blog to keep track record of all the books that I have read over the years from the 50 Challege Books, I participated in with my friend Darla and our Yahoo group we both in. That was my first reason...
Congrats to all the bloggers who received these wonderful awards!
Congratulations on your awards. This is the first time I've visited your blog and I love it! Will make sure to drop by more often.
I started keeping track of what I was reading two years before I started blogging but since I started I have a notebook where I write the name and dates read down in to check off once I review it too. Simple but it works for me!
Congrats on all your awards!!!
Aaaaawwwww.... thanks, Melody! I'm a zombie chicken now! LOLOL! You're a great one too, you know. Muhahahaha!
Love your blog design - so fun to look at!!
Congrats on your award(s). My MM is up.
Congrats on the awards Melody-you really do deserve them! Thank you for awarding me, I'm honored. Your blog is great and I love visiting.
As for keeping track of books, before I started my blog I had this pretty little box with index cards and I kept track of them in there. Since starting my blog I have dreadfully neglected that box. lol.
Me too..I love the look of your blog. Not to mention your posts and reviews.
You have a lot of challenges on your sidebar.
congrats on the awards!
Great look, Melody!
Musing Mondays (March 30, 2009)
I keep track of books in a little notebook, so it's mobile for the library. I LOVE your blog!!!!
I totally agree I wish I had started doing this earlier as I've found some great blogs out there but am glad at least I started last year. I posted my answer here: http://debbiesworld.wordpress.com/2009/03/29/musing-monday-march-30/
Congratulations on your awards, again! :)
And thank you so much for giving me one! It means a lot!
Oh my that zombie chicken award is too cute. Congrats on your awards! :)
The Zombie Chicken has to be the coolest award ever :D Thank you so much for passing it on to me. And congrats on all your awards! You deserve them all and more, my friend.
Melody, thank you so much for the award! I have not had a brilliant day and that really cheered me up! Your blog was one of the first that I ever read and you really inspired me to start my own- many thanks!
Thank you so much for the award. I'll pass on the karma. :)
Since I usually read one book at a time, (except for this month, with the ongoing Gone with the Wind), it's easy for me to write the review, which is first a journal entry, immediately after I finish the book.
Congrats on your awards! I used to keep track of the books I read by hand in a journal, but now I do it on the computer.
congrats on the awards, and thank you for passing one on to me!
I like to keep track of my books on my blog too :)

Violet - Thank you! And you're most welcome! :)
Julia - Blogs are the best, aren't they? (At least to those of us who don't keep track in journals or database, that is.) ;)
Ulat Buku - Thank you for visiting! I hope you'll stop by often. I'll have to check out your blog in a moment. :)
Jen - I wish I've kept a journal but I thought that's too much work, plus I'd rather type than write, haha.
Alice - That makes two of us, haha.
Mary - Thanks for visiting! :)
Dar - Thanks! That's interesting about the index cards! I don't think I'd have the time to maintain it! ;)
Debbie - Thank you! :)
Gautami - Thanks! :)
Zetor - Thanks! I haven't been to a library for a long time! I figure a notebook will be useful for referring, that is. :)
Debbiesworld - It's always better to be late than never! ;)
Jessica - Thanks! And you're most welcome! :D
Iliana - The button for the Zombie Chicken award is cute, isn't it? ;P
Nymeth - I agree with you, the award is so cool! ;) Thanks for being a great friend to me!
Dot - Thank you! I feel so honoured and flattered! I'm glad my post had cheered you up! :)
Matt - I'll usually read one book at a time too. But sometimes, I just couldn't resist reading another book but that's the most I can do!
Nise - I find it easier to keep track on digitals than journals. Typing is so much faster than writing. ;)
Naida - Thanks! And you're welcome! I'm glad you're keeping track of your books on your blog too! :)
Cool awards- congrats on them. Have to admit I never met a zombie chicken before. I do keep track of what I've read- since 2001. I can't remember now what prompted me to start keeping a list, but for years it was just that- a list in a notebook. You're right, blogging it is so much more fun!
I love the layout of your blog, really fun! I am also enjyoing reading back through your posts as I just discovered your blog this week!
I record all that I read in the back of my moleskine diary so I can look back at what i have read from year to year.
I have recently started a blog to keep track of my reading of Virginia Woolf, as I want to write about it as well as read it and I am thoroughly enjoying the process (even if it is only a few weeks in)
I started keeping track of the books I read back in 1999. I created a spreadsheet several years later when I started acquring books by the box. :) But blogging is definitely my favorite way of keeping track.
Congrats on the awards!
Jeane - Thanks! I've never met any zombie chicken either, LOL. Looking back, I wish I'd jotted down my lists in journals, but I guess I'm a lazy person, haha.
Flo - Thanks for visiting my blog! I hope you'll stop by often! :)
I don't keep any journals or notebooks so this is one reason why I blog. :)
Trish - Wow, that's great! I can't imagine myself keeping track of the books I read back then... I'm glad blogging is another great outlet for me to write my thoughts and make friends along the way! :)
Congratulations, Melody! These are such fun awards, especially that Zombie Chicken one. :-)
Blogging is a great way to keep track of reading isn't it?
Wendy - Thanks, Wendy! I admit the zombie chicken is a fun one. ;)
