Your answer makes sense to me -- insightful and well thought-out! Certainly authors who have written for many years change over time, and sometimes they experiment with new styles, different genres. And usually, I'm quite willing to go with them, to see what they can do when they stretch their muscles. :)

I was hugely disappointed my Colleen McCullough too. I did not like her book A Creed for the Third Millennium. It is no where as good as her other books. However, I will read her, no doubt.

I don't think I stick with any one author long enough to really catch the trends, myself. I tend to flit here and there, reading whatever catches my fancy at the time. Not sure if this is good or bad. ;)

Good answer! I love to stick with authors and I am very disappointed when they change abruptly. But I read alot more variety nowadays so that doesn't happen so often.

Darla, lately I've heard a lot of comments about LKH's books that she doesn't live up to the expectations anymore. I'm disappointed to hear that, because I've a few of her earlier books in my pile and I'm thinking of buying the whole series... guess I've to think twice now. :(

I think you're more loyal than me, Melody. :-) There's so much to read that if an author rubs me the wrong way (that's not the best choice of words, but I can't think how else to phrase it), it'll be a loooong time before I pick up one of their books again.
